Socket Weld Fittings

Socket Weld Fittings are high-pressure, forged pipe fittings designed primarily for small-diameter piping systems (typically up to NPS 2, and commonly used up to 4”). These fittings feature a recessed socket into which the pipe is inserted and secured using a fillet weld, ensuring a strong, durable, and leak-proof connection.

They are widely used in industries where high pressure, reliability, and compact design are critical.

Key Features

  • High Strength & Leak-Proof Joints due to fillet welding
  • Designed for small bore piping systems
  • Easy alignment and installation with socket design
  • Suitable for high-pressure applications
  • Common pressure ratings: 3000#, 6000#, 9000#

Standards & Materials

Manufactured as per ASME B16.11 standards to ensure dimensional accuracy and performance.

Materials Available

  • Carbon Steel (ASTM A105)
  • Stainless Steel (SS 304 / SS 316 / 316L)
  • Alloy Steel

These materials are selected based on application requirements such as pressure, temperature, and corrosion resistance.

Installation Guidelines

  • Pipe is inserted into the socket and welded using a fillet weld
  • A 1.5 mm gap (approx. 1/16 inch) is maintained between the pipe end and socket base
  • Allows thermal expansion
  • Reduces risk of weld cracking

Advantages

  • Prevents weld metal from entering pipe bore
  • Ensures proper pipe alignment
  • High structural integrity
  • Ideal for high-pressure, small-size pipelines
  • Quick and reliable installation

Limitations

  • Crevice corrosion risk due to internal gap
  • Not recommended for high-purity applications (food, pharma)
  • Difficult to clean internally

Common Types of Socket Weld Fittings

  • Elbows (45° & 90°): Used to change the direction of flow
  • Couplings: Connect two pipes (Full & Reducing)
  • Tees & Crosses: Used for branching pipelines into multiple directions
  • Unions: Allow easy dismantling for maintenance
  • Caps: Used to close the end of a pipeline

Applications

  • Oil & Gas Industry
  • Petrochemical Plants
  • Power Generation
  • Hydraulic & High-Pressure Systems
  • Chemical Processing Units

Why Choose Socket Weld Fittings?

Socket weld fittings offer an excellent balance of strength, reliability, and ease of installation, making them a preferred choice for high-pressure piping systems with smaller diameters.
